Rehabilitation Program

Specifically designed for licensed physical or occupational therapists, chiropractors and doctors of sports medicine by program director Moira Merrithew and physical therapist Joanna Speller, the STOTT PILATES* Rehabilitation program's four courses progressively demonstrate integrating modified matwork and equipment-based STOTT PILATES exercises appropriately into therapeutic conditioning.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Lumbar & Shoulder Girdle Stabilization
on Mat & Rehab Reformer [RMR1]

introduces the biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and their application to modified matwork, small equipment and Rehab Reformer exercises. Emphasis is on lumbo-pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization and the role they play in rehabilitation and injury prevention.
Also taught:

Identifying proper execution and movement patterns
Effective verbal cueing and imagery
142 exercises plus multiple modifications

PREREQUISITES: Applications are only accepted from licensed physical or occupational therapists, chiropractors or sports medicine doctors

DURATION: 24 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over four days.

CECs: 2.4 STOTT PILATES

Peripheral Joint Rehabilitation
on Mat & Rehab Reformer [RMR2]

builds on the biomechanical and stabilization principles learned in RMR1, keeping the emphasis on core stability while mobilizing the peripheral joints. These exercises are designed to prevent and rehabilitate common injuries by balancing and strengthening muscles around the joints in order to restore and maintain healthy movement patterns.
Also taught:

More than 127 exercises
A focus on injuries of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle

PREREQUISITES: RMR1

DURATION: 24 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over four days.

CECs: 2.4 STOTT PILATES

Lumbar & Shoulder Girdle Stabilization
on Cadillac, Chair & Barrels [RCCB1]

reviews how to incorporate the different levels of resistance and support provided by the Cadillac Trapeze Table, Stability Chair and Barrels to improve mobilization and stabilization of the lumbo-pelvic region and shoulder girdle, with an emphasis on their roles in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Also taught:

Review of STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles
Identifying proper execution and movement patterns
Effective verbal cueing and imagery
More than 100 modified exercises

PREREQUISITES: RMR1

DURATION: 16 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over three days.

CECs: 1.6 STOTT PILATES

Peripheral Joint Rehabilitation
on Cadillac, Chair & Barrels [RCCB2]

teaches how to assist rehabilitation with a widely varied series of non weight-bearing and weight-bearing exercises. You will begin by targeting the upper and lower extremities and enabling isolation of the joints while maintaining core stability. You then learn how to help patients and clients progress to weight-bearing exercises in order to improve functional alignment and core stability. Also taught:

Approximately 100 exercises
A focus on injuries of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle

PREREQUISITES: RMR1, RMR2 and RCCB1

DURATION: 16 hours of instruction and supervised teaching conducted over three days.

CECs: 1.6 STOTT PILATES

GENERAL COURSE OBJECTIVES

How to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles of core stability, peripheral mobility, breathing and alignment to therapeutic conditioning
Integration of core stability and peripheral mobility training for injury prevention and rehabilitation
Exercise essence, muscular initiation and movement sequencing
Modifications for specific body types, postural issues, injuries and conditions
Effective communication, visual skills, verbal cuing and imagery for performance enhancement and motivation

Certification is only awarded after successful completion of course and corresponding written and practical exams
