WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Arc Barrel

Learn to enhance pilates Matwork* and yoga using the Arc Barrel to improve flexibility and torso stability and modify exercises. We offer several STOTT PILATES stretch and strengthen exercises involving torso stabilization, plus supported flexion and extension of the spine. Ideal for fitness or yoga instructors offering private and group training.

Anatomy Review

This six-hour workshop takes in the first two sessions of the full Anatomy Course. Review basic anatomical terminology, focus on target muscles (and their actions) and practice your postural analysis skills in preparation for your STOTT PILATES certification exam.

Fitness Circle* Pilates

This hands-on workshop intensifies STOTT PILATES Matwork* exercises with the added resistance of the Fitness Circle exerciser to develop torso stability awareness, and tone arms and legs. The pace then increases challenging muscular coordination and endurance. Exercise details, including essence, breathing, modifications and verbal/visual cueing is taught and practiced to customize programs meeting the needs of a variety of body types, from post rehab to elite athletes.

Flex-Band*

Learn to intensify STOTT PILATES Matwork* exercises in this hands-on workshop, using the resistance of the Flex-Band to add variety, increase torso stability, and tone arms and legs. Also learn to use the Flex-Band exercises simulating the spring resistance of the Reformer. Exercise details, including essence, breathing, modifications and verbal/visual cueing are taught and practiced to customize programs meeting the needs of a variety of body types, from post rehab to elite athletes.

Fitness Circle* Challenge, level 3

Inject energy and challenge into matwork with the versatile Fitness Circle resistance ring. Add targeted resistance and focus to both upper and lower body moves for an invigorating routine guaranteed to challenge strength, flexibility and core stability. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness also covered.

Total Body Sculpting, Flex-Band level 2

Increase core and peripheral strength by incorporating the resistance of the Flex-Band exerciser into a STOTT PILATES Matwork routine.

Fitness Circle* Flow

Increase strength, flexibility and muscle tone with the dynamic Fitness Circle* resistance ring. This energizing workout will help you develop greater body awareness. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness will be included.

Intense Sculpting Challenge - Flex-Band level 4

Build more challenge and diversity. Learn how to challenge core and peripheral strength with the resistance provided by the Flex-Band exerciser and increase exercise intensity in the areas of neuromuscular coordination, balance, strength and flexibility. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness are also covered. Understand movement essence and exercise goals. Focus on upper and lower body work simultaneously using resistance.

Exercises and modifications suited for those who have reached their second trimester of pregnancy.

Mini Stability-Ball™ Workout

This energizing workout incorporates the 12-inch Mini Stability-Ball to create total-body strengthening and conditioning. Improve posture with a major focus on core stability and back mobility while also lengthening and strengthening the surrounding muscles. Participants learn how to add variety and fun to traditional Matwork routines.

Ultimate Body Sculpting, Flex-Band level 3

Simulate spring resistance using the Flex-Band exerciser with these Reformer-style exercises. Add variety, intensity and fun using these challenging Flex-Band exercises in a level three STOTT PILATES workout.

Essential BOSU* Pilates, Dynamic Sports Training

Flat on one side and domed on the other, the unstable nature of the BOSU makes it an ideal tool for establishing and reinforcing balance, stability and proprioception while you gain core strength. The unique design of the BOSU Balance Trainer allows pilates exercises to be done in supine, prone, sitting, kneeling, lunging and standing positions. This workshop is a great introduction to this valuable piece of equipment with exercises that will benefit everyone.

Intermediate BOSU* Pilates, Athletic Enhancement

This intense, hands-on presentation takes you through intermediate level pilates exercises for the “BOth Sides Up” BOSU Balance Trainer, a versatile semi-ball that effectively targets and conditions the core. This effective balance and proprioception training can enhance strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and muscular endurance. It is highly recommended that you take the Essential BOSU workshop before the Intermediate BOSU training workshop.

Rehab Shoulder / Lumbar Stabilization

These two workshops introduce the modern biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and their application to a series of modified essential-level Matwork* and/or equipment-based exercises. Emphasis is placed on pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization and the role they play in preventing and healing lumbar and cervical injuries. Participants perform exercises and learn to identify proper execution and movement patterns.

Pilates for Men, Matwork

Get down on the mat for a workout that’s not for the faint-hearted. Welcome to the full-body workout athletes swear by for sports conditioning, cross training and a strong, injury-resistant core. Every last muscle will feel this challenging routine which uses only body weight, gravity and innovative exercise choices to focus on precision and control.

Lumbo-Pelvic Region: Stability & Function

This lecture explores the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the lumbo-pelvic region, some of the interruptions that can occur to the ideal functioning of this area and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. First, the available movements and functioning of the lumbo-pelvic region are explored considering the lumbar, the pelvis, the hip and surrounding musculature. Common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns and postures are addressed. Finally, exercise progressions that can be used to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning are outlined, as well as exercises that can challenge and promote optimal performance.

Shoulder Girdle: Stability & Function

This workshop explores the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the shoulder girdle, and some of the interruptions that can occur to the ideal functioning of this area and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. Stability Ball, Reformer-based

This workout emulates the toning, stretching, and lengthening exercise most often performed on a Reformer. The Stability Ball introduces balance for added challenge to your abs, kegs and butt muscles.

Dynamic Balance - Stability Ball, level 2

Stepping up to level two of the Stability Ball workouts, torso stability is further challenged with major emphasis is placed on balance and proprioception. This fun and challenging workshop truly challenges the core. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness are also covered.

3-D Balance - Stability Ball, level 3

Increase the challenge and benefit of Intermediate Matwork exercises by adapting them to the Stability Ball. The Ball's dynamic nature provides additional proprioceptive challenge and prompts faster stabilization.

Circuit Training Reformer, Cadillac, Chair

shows you how to develop circuit training programs to improve balance, strength, flexibility and coordination using the Arc/Small Barrel, Reformer, Cadillac and Chair. A version of this workout may also be done using the Reformer and Chair only.

Superior Balance, Stability Ball, level 4

The highest level of difficulty in the Stability Ball series provides maximum challenge to strength, balance and stability by styling ball exercises on the Intermediate Reformer repertoire. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness are also covered.

Pilates with Props, level 1

This innovative and upbeat mat workout features props or ‘toys’ including the Flex-Band, Fitness Circle and Toning Balls. Learn to create a workout that’s sure to inspire you and your clients alike. Focusing on strength and agility, this routine will leave you feeling strong and streamlined and will serve to improve your game – even if your only game is life!

Pilates with Props, Level 2

Are you looking to add more interest Matwork? This workshop builds on Level 1 exercises to create an awesome series demonstrating how to enhance a standard Matwork routine by adding the Flex-Band, Fitness Circle and Toning Balls. Focusing on strength and agility, learn variations and modifications that challenge and stimulate. Start with basic exercises then progress to a much more challenging moves.

Become a certified cancer exercise specialist through this program that teaches how to design and implement a Pilates-based exercise program for Breast cancer survivors with their specific medical limitations.

Toning Ball Workout

Formerly entitled the Weighted Ball Workout, this workshop incorporates small hand-held, sand-filled balls to add resistance and challenge to Matwork.

Armchair Pilates

This workshop adapts the STOTT PILATES principles and exercises to a seated position offering gentle, functional fitness and an effective workout for clients with restricted mobility. A variety of exercises will be discussed, demonstrated and experienced that work both the core and peripheral muscle groups while seated.

Dynamic Armchair Pilates, level 2

Building on the foundation developed in Level 1 of this series, this workshop will continue to show exercise variations for those whose mobility does not permit them to exercise on the floor. In addition to exploring movements which incorporate the gentle resistance of the STOTT PILATES® Flex-Band® exerciser, you will work through a number of exercises performed in a supported standing position.

Postural Analysis & Applicaton to Exercise

This hands on workshop outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES workouts. Differences between static and dynamic posture will be considered and discussed. Postural theory will be reviewed and actual analysis practiced.

Reformer for the Older Adult

Despite decrements associated with aging, the ability to adapt to endurance and strength training is well documented. Matwork for Breast Cancer Rehab

Many more women will survive breast cancer today than ever before. These women will be encouraged to seek out fitness programs to assist in their recovery and give them the strength and endurance needed to resume an active lifestyle. This workshop discusses various types of treatments including surgeries and reconstruction and the exercise requirements for each. Programs include Matwork based exercises focusing on ROM for the entire shoulder girdle, establishing mobility, restoring posture, ensuring proper biomechanics and developing core and peripheral strength to address muscular imbalances created from the surgeries. Exercises incorporate hand-held Toning Balls and a towel or small foam cushion to work on low load strength and endurance.

This interactive workshop teaches trainers how to progress from the essential-level Reformer repertoire to more complex and coordinated intermediate-level exercises. Hone your observation skills and learn what to look for to determine a client’s readiness to progress. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness are also covered.

Split-Pedal Stability Chair

Discover the STOTT PILATES Split-Pedal Stability Chair. The capabilities of the Chair will be highlighted, and all its features utilized (including handles and split-pedal function) in the context of a well-rounded workout. The Stability Chair offers the opportunity for functional exercises working against spring resistance in a variety of positions, notably standing, and an opportunity to train core stability while working the limbs bilaterally, unilaterally or reciprocally. Jumpboard Interval Training

Challenge and motivate your clients and classes using innovative and simple jumpboard combinations, separated with intervals of upper and lower body strength and flexibility exercises on the Reformer. This ultimate cardio / strength interval class, challenges your clients core, and total body strength, elevates heart rates, while focusing on proper jumping technique.

The Knee: Stability & Function

This lecture/demo will explore the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the knee, some of the interruptions that can occur and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. Available movements and functioning of the knee will be explored, and then common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns will be addressed. Exercise progressions that can be used to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning will be outlined as well as knee joint exercise that can challenge and promote optimal performance. Understand optimal function and movement patterns of the knee joint. Review anatomy and muscular involvement. Understand common dysfunctions. STOTT PILATES Intermediate Matwork:
Functional Anatomy, Cueing & Correcting

Focus on the details of cueing and correcting many of the more difficult matwork moves in this Intermediate Matwork workshop. Select exercises will be broken down to identify the specific joint movement and muscular action. Learn cueing tips and modifications to help your clients progress into this more challenging work while maintaining good form. STOTT PILATES Intermediate Reformer:
Functional Anatomy, Cueing & Correcting

Crossover from Intensive Mat-Plus Training
to Group Training - XMG

Designed for instructors who have completed Intensive or Comprehensive Mat-Plus training. Prerequisites IMP or CMR,
Duration 6 hours, CECs 0.6

Enhance your group instruction skills enabling you to teach group matwork safely while keeping classes upbeat and motivating. Learn to conduct an orientation class designed specifically for clients entering group matwork classes. Instructors will leave with ten pre-designed Essential through Intermediate workouts ready to teach in a group environment. These incorporate small equipment (Flex-Band exercisers, Fitness Circle resistance rings and Toning Balls) and cover a variety of intensity levels. Following this workshop, students are eligible to take the Matwork exam of the Group SPX stream that tests group training knowledge and skills.

Crossover from Intensive Reformer Training
to Group Training - XRG

Designed for instructors who have completed Intensive or Comprehensive Reformer training. Prerequisites IR or CMR,
Duration 6 hours, CECs 0.6

Enhance your group instruction skills enabling you to safely teach a small group reformer session while keeping the class upbeat and motivating. You will also learn an orientation class designed specifically for clients who are entering group reformer classes. Instructors will leave ready to teach twelve pre-designed Essential through Intermediate workouts in a group environment, as well as a number of plyometric exercises performed on the Jumpboard. Following this workshop, students are eligible to take the Reformer exam of the Group SPX stream that tests group training knowledge and skills.

Exam Preparation: General Overview

This interactive workshop is designed to help students prepare for their STOTT PILATES certification exams. It provides valuable information to help students score well on the exam, including an overview of exam format, the most effective and useful study methods, content that should be focused on, and what to expect during the exam. Basic principles, postural analysis and tips for cueing and correcting will also be reviewed.

Exam Preparation: Matwork

Get ready for the Matwork exam by reviewing specific matwork exercises during this two-hour workshop. Emphasis will be placed on corrections and cues, and what to focus on during the exam. The use of props and modifications based on posture and programming will also be addressed.

Exam Preparation: Reformer

Get in top shape for the Reformer exam with this three-hour workshop covering: programming for Reformer and matwork/reformer, modifications and programming when using the reformer for specific postural alignments, and a discussion and review of several reformer exercises..

Exam Preparation: Cadillac, Chair & Barrels

This interactive, three-hour session prepares the exam candidate for the Cadillac, Chair & Barrels portion of their exam. Matwork and reformer programming are briefly reviewed with the majority of time spent on programming that incorporates all pieces of equipment. Specific exercises from the Cadillac, Chair & Barrels repertoire are reviewed, including correct positioning.

Perfecting your Corrections

Exercises will incorporate hand-held toning balls and a small foam cushion to work on low load strength and endurance.
