The arrival of Xtend Barre Babies on Board!

Xtend Barre Babies on Board at Equilibrium

We love having new moms and their babies in the studio for the incredible Xtend Barre Babies on Board class! During this 45-minute class, moms workout with their baby in a bjorn or sling and then spend time during floor work with the baby on the mat or in their arms. The moms get through a total body workout with a warm-up, arm exercises, time at the bar for the lower body and abdominal work on the mat.

The babies love being close to mom, bouncing & swaying during plies and curtsys, and listening to the music. The moms love the convenience of bringing their little one with them while they do something for themselves and their health. Additionally, the class has the benefit of two experienced instructors to help them stay safe and get the most out of the positions.

This class runs for 6-weeks with the same group, allowing moms to bond with each other by sharing stories and advice. If you know someone with a new baby who would be interested in the opportunity to take this class next session, please contact

Congratulations to challenger & bride-to-be, Sarah!

Our Winter 3-month Xtend Barre Challenge just ended and we have some wonderful updates on our three challengers to share with you…Read below for our first update!

Remember our bride-to-be, Sarah? This was Sarah before the challenge in a push-up:

Before Sarah began taking classes regularly, she struggled to complete one push-up. Her core and hips were sinking and her chest was caving in. She didn’t have a large range and couldn’t hold a plank position for very long. LOOK at Sarah NOW:

While Sarah was already a healthy weight before  the challenge she lacked the strength and tone she desired. Now she is SO STRONG! Sarah’s form is fabulous, using her strong core to hold her in a plank or push-up. She is able to get lower than ever in her push-ups and can hold her plank for at least a minute without a break. Sarah’s upper body is perfectly toned for her wedding day. Hear directly from Sarah about how she feels:

Challenger Update!

Our challengers have been taking classes for a little over a month and are doing an amazing job! Combined they have attended 75 classes! We are proud of their commitment to health and fitness. All of the challengers feel and look stronger…their arms are more toned, muscles are more defined and abs are tighter. They continue to be great examples of “STRONG is the new skinny.”

Remember Sarah, our bride-to-be? When she came to us in January, Sarah could barely complete a push-up and her abs were sinking in her plank. Look at her now! Sarah loves coming to the morning classes and frequents our 8:00am options. She finds all the classes to be challenging and motivating.

Challengers Manish and Monisha, our wonderful married couple, have kept each other accountable despite their extremely busy schedules. Monisha “Mo” is so enthusiastic and says, I love it.  I’m getting stronger every class I take!” We were very impressed by her dedication to take back to back classes during her Spring Break week. Mo came in with a huge smile on her face the day she passed her Dental Boards and despite being exhausted from studying and a long day of examinations, she stayed for two classes. Way to go, Mo! 




For Manish, his journey as a challenger has been both amazing and frustrating due to a rigorous work schedule. “For the first two weeks things were going really well, and I was feeling stronger and stronger every day. Now I have been working a lot for the past 2 weeks…so needless to say have fallen off in a big way. I find that my posture, my feeling of strength, and even my ability to deal with the stresses of the normal day has rapidly fallen off…In the first two weeks I literally felt better than I had in probably 3 or 4 years…well thankfully, this period of difficulty at work is ending at the end of this weekend, and I am so excited to be back in those classes, and feeling like I am actually 34 again, rather than feeling like I might be hitting 70 soon. Since my knee surgeries I haven’t been able to play sports, which was the main way I stayed fit prior to the injury (I am currently 50 pounds heavier than I used to be in my “Fit” days…and about a year ago I was even 30 pounds heavier than I am now!!). Doing the routine cardio machines at the gym was just so boring, that I really couldn’t get excited to go work out ever, now, after only a few weeks of being at Equilibrium, I feel as if I am missing out on something I love, and my body desperately needs!!…so I cannot wait to be back at the studio on Monday, and rather than having given up after hitting a tough 2 week stretch…I’ll be doubling up to get it all back!!” 

Manish’s dedication to increase his fitness level and develop healthier habits is inspiring to us all. We are proud of him for continuing to push himself to attend classes and find a healthy balance in his life. He even comes in at 5:45am and 6:00am!

In addition to making fitness classes a priority in their busy schedules, all of the challengers have met with Wellness Coach, Sarah Willoughby, to learn ways they can work on being healthier at home. We can’t wait to see their progress over the next two months and will keep you updated!

Equilibrium is going to Detroit!

On Monday, August 12, the Equilibrium Pilates Studio team will be traveling to the rooftop of the M@dison Building to host a fusion Pilates class for 100 Quicken Loans employees to support Come Play Detroit Fitness Studio. Our goal for this event is to show the city how fun it can be to stay active, lead a healthy lifestyle, and of course, support the fabulous City of Detroit. Stay tuned for pictures!

Hear about Nicki’s Xtend challenge….

Even though I am an instructor and worked out throughout my pregnancy, getting back into shape is a challenge (hence being an Xtend Challenger). With sleepless nights,  an unfamiliar postpartum “shape” and nursing, I felt non energetic and uncomfortable in my skin. However, I was REALLY looking forward to getting back to the workout and studio that I love. After the first Xtend class with Liz I knew I had a ways to go, I had lost a lot of arm muscle, had no abs and boy were my legs were shaking!! It’s been a little over a month and I have been taking at least three Xtend classes a week from Amy, Liz and Kristin.

Each morning I may be tired from lack of sleep but feel instantly energized with the music and the face paced warm-up! I can almost get through the triceps dips without a break and only shake on occasion! I push myself harder each class and really try to focus on form. While the scale hasn’t changed all that much and I know I have a ways to go, my body feels more tone and tight and I’ve noticed my pants fitting better (especially in the waist). Most importantly, I am a happy Mom. It feels great to do something for myself and the music, other instructors and clients are so wonderful and supportive. They always ask how the boys are doing and are thoughtful and encouraging. I feel so lucky to have this opportunity and look forward to making even more progress in the coming months. Can’t wait to see what the future brings.
