Week 1 – Back to Basics

My lats, they hurt. I only discovered this during a private with Anna where she had me take a stretch on the Cadillac. It was a sore burning that kicked on when I raised my arms and went into a slight back extension—and it let me know I’d been putting in work.

A Tough Start to 2019 and the Importance of Self Care

Feb 15 I was skiing in Aspen and on my final day skiing I fell, my first fall in 5 days. As I was going down I felt a pop in my knee and I knew I wouldn’t be able to get up.

May 30 I was waiting to turn left, blinker on and I was rear ended by a distracted driver- he didn’t even brake- resulting in whiplash a concussion and my car being totaled.

“Pilates an Effective Exercise, especially if you’re pregnant”

We love seeing our pregnant clients staying healthy and safe during their pregnancy so when we came across this article recently, we were so thrilled with what this instructor is saying!

"One question I get asked all the time by women who are pregnant: “Is Pilates safe to do?”

And my response is: YES! During pregnancy it is important to exercise regularly and most importantly, safely.

Inspiring testimonial from our amazing, post-pregnancy client!

We love hearing inspiring stories from our clients about their success and experience with Pilates at Equilibrium! Jamie Baker, a client since spring of 2014 wrote to us after having her sweet baby boy. During her pregnancy, Jamie consistently came to weekly private sessions with Christine & Elissha and attended Xtend Barre classes with Liz.

My Favorite Exercise Is…with Jenn Montie

Jenn shares two of her favorite exercises:

My favorite exercise to teach on the mat is slow double leg stretch. It is great for the core and has a lot of choreography! It is difficult to cue, but with practice it is a fun challenge!

My favorite exercise to do personally is feet in the straps -frog.

"After two months of being the studio challenger I am still loving it and wish I had more free time to take additional classes!  I continue to really enjoy Liz’s cardio pilates class and Lauren’s reformer classes.

CHALLENGER UPDATE: WAY TO GO, DEBBIE!

Our studio fitness challenger, Debbie, has been incredibly committed to taking a variety of classes, where she has increased her upper body strength and fitness level! Hear what Debbie has to say about her first month as the challenger:

I have been having a great time being the 3 month challenger at Equilibrium and feel so grateful that I have had the opportunity.

Technique Tip: Rib Cage Placement

Importance of Rib Cage Placement

By: Gayle Eubanks

Have you ever wondered why your instructor is always commenting to you to keep your ribcage down on the mat or closed?
There are a couple of reasons for this. If you think about basic anatomy, (check out the skeleton behind the front desk) you’ll notice the rib bones actually have an attachment to the spine.
