Amy P’s Friday morning mat class

Amy P’s Friday morning mat class

Ever since I was a client at Equilibrium, I have been hearing this “urban legend” about Amy P’s Friday morning advanced power mat class. Friday morning rolled around and I thought, “What the heck, I’ll give it a try. How hard could it be?” Mind you, this is a class which requires special permission from the instructor. The instructors all encouraged me to partake in the class and convinced me that I would be fine since I have been faithfully working out. During the first 7 minutes of class I thought to myself, “Uh Oh…. this class isn’t called ‘power’ mat for nothing!” After an hour of endless squeezes, tuck, lifts, and stretches, I was feeling exhausted, but exhilarated! I worked muscles I didn’t even know I had! The next morning my obliques were so sore (you know that abdomen side area where some of us ladies tend get “soft”). I felt so good that I was motivated to workout Saturday morning. I definitely got the workout I needed to stay on track for the weekend. Needless to say, I’ll be back next week!

Camp Casey celebrates dying girl’s courage

Molly Melamed, Equilibrium pilates instructor and newsletter writer, is also the founder and director of Camp Casey, a non-profit horseback riding and outreach program for children with cancer and their families.  Molly’s equilibrium family is so proud of her work and now the entire nation knows about her after the Today Show came to Detroit to film a story about Camp Casey, Molly, and their unique Horsey House Calls program.  Julie Yolles, Birmingham-based free lance writer, wrote a story that appeared in the Observer-Eccentric newspaper. Read the entire story and be inspired.

Stay tuned to hear another uplifting story about an equilibrium client and friend who started The Bottomless Toy Chest, a nonprofit organization devoted to delivering art projects, crafts and interactive toys to hospitalized pediatric cancer patients.  I am so proud to work with people whose devotion to service and activism is as natural as breathing. I plan to share all of their inspirational stories with you!
