About Us

Nancy-HodariWelcome to Equilibrium Studio. My goal is to have you step into a beautiful and energizing space where you can escape from reality and spend an hour or two focusing on your inner and outer health and fitness. I know you have many choices for your exercise programming, and I feel honored when people choose Equilibrium. My team and I strive to not only meet your expectations, but to exceed them.

A short history of our studio. Equilibrium opened in 1997 and we have been training clients and teachers since we opened the doors to Studio G, our original equipment studio.  I left the practice of law after a nerve injury led to my third back surgery which left me walking with a brace.  I chose pilates as an alternative way to rehab and began working with Khita Austin, a teacher working in her basement in Ann Arbor, and the infamous Romana practicing in New York City. I realized that Oakland County would not miss another attorney, but was badly in need of a pilates training studio.

Equilibrium opened in 1997 as the first licensed STOTT PILATES training and certification center in the United States. We started with two instructors and now employ 24 instructors and 7 administrative staff. Our first equipment studio has tripled in space and we now have a group fitness room for Xtend Barre and TRX, and a cardio circuit room with state of the art spin bikes, trampolines, and spring wall units. Come and see for yourself.

You will be welcomed warmly , even if you don’t know much about Pilates or fitness. Whether you are enjoying  a cup of green tea, filtered water, or a yummy sesame snack in the serene and sophisticated lobby of Studio G, or in the colorful and artistic lobby of Studio H, or you are enjoying a workout in the largest pilates equipment studio in the Midwest, or doing cardio circuit training or tabata workouts in our newest state of the art cardio studio that opened in 2012, or experiencing the #1 barre workout in the country in our Xtend Barre studio, you will feel at home.

Starting in June 2012 you can experience the quality of equilibrium pilates studio at The Franklin Athletic Club where we opened a second location solely dedicated to pilates.

Equilibrium instructors are the best in the Midwest, and all are expertly trained and certified. They are also friendly, approachable and willing to help you in any way they can. Equilibrium’s mission is to empower people to lead a healthier and happier lifestyle through Pilates and the top fitness classes in the country, including Xtend Barre, TRX, and Cardio Circuit Training.

My philosophy is that fitness should be fun. The environment at Equilibrium is one of encouragement and lightheartedness. I want every person to leave feeling a little taller, a little stronger, and of course happier.

Equilibrium’s mission has not changed since our doors opened in 1997, and I am extremely grateful to the staff, clients and friends who have helped make Equilibrium not only a state of mind, but also a home away from home for the many people who walk through our doors every day.

In good health,

Nancy Hodari, Owner and Director of Education Programs
and Oliver, Studio Watchdog

I look forward to meeting you at the studio.
